A 'Pokémon Go' timer cheat doubles the life of incense. Pokémon Go

Pokémon Go has become increasingly concerned with egg hatching as more and more players fill up their regional Pokédex. In this guide, we’ll describe a small tip that helps recoup any lost walking distance to make the process faster.

The technique was detailed by Isantum on The Silph Road reddit page. After messing about with Pokémon Go over a 2G network, the user found that their app would frequently lose data connection while in transit. As a result this would throw off egg hatching stats. As opposed to registering a 3-kilometer walk, for example, the GPS would only record about 1.2 kilometers of that distance. Such a phenomenon is nothing new for dedicated trainers, and luckily there’s a fix.

Isantum and several other posters have confirmed that going to the Journal feature of the account profile page actually forces Pokémon Go to ping the nearest cell tower. In other words, it recalibrates the GPS to instantly check how far the player has traveled. Because of how the game’s coded, simply going to the Journal frequently in low-signal areas should keep egg hatching functional.

Upon testing, it was found that the tip absolutely generated real results. 2-kilometer eggs were able to hatch in as little as 20 minutes when they would take about twice as long without a Journal check.

While effective, it should be noted that this technique isn’t totally new. Fellow redditors in the source post also mentioned that briefly enabling airplane mode or changing the nickname of a Pokémon will force the app to ping as well. Regardless of method, the impact is the same. In addition to solving egg hatching foibles, a connection refresh can also alleviate frustrations with monster spawning, gyms and item placement too. That being said, this guide should have plenty of alternate uses.

This Pokémon Go tip is far from the only one we’ve covered on iDigitalTimes. Be sure to check out our full explanations of how nests work, the new appraisal feature and the purpose of increases.

Pokémon Go is available now on Android and iOS.
