Pokemon from the Johto Region are coming to 'Pokemon Go' Niantic

When the Generation 2 update for Pokémon Go was announced it put the release date as “later this week” but when can trainers expect the Johto Region to come to their mobile devices ? If a recent Sprint press release is to be believed, it won’t be long.

According to a Sprint press release, participating Sprint stores will be holding a Pokémon Go “Lure-a-thon” for trainers to capture Generation 2 update on Friday, Feb. 17.

UPDATE: Generation 2 update has arrived as of 6pm EST

Here’s the excerpt from the Sprint press release:

“Sprint is hosting a nationwide Lure-A-Thon at Sprint PokéStops and Gyms across the country from 2 pm to 8 pm local time Friday, Feb. 17. Lures will be set during this time to attract Pokémon to the store.”

The latest update for Pokémon Go has already begun to roll out for iOS and Android and the change to the UI in regards to berries and Pokéballs can already be seen it’s just a matter of when Niantic flips the switch to let the Johto Pokémon loose.

What the Sprint event signifies is that the Gen 2 Pokémon Go update will appear no later than 2pm EST on Friday.

While it’s possible that Niantic flips the switch Thursday night, don’t forget that Pokémon Go didn’t appear in the App Store and Google Play Store until late that night, it is more likely that it’ll appear Friday.

We will continue to update on the timing of the Pokémon Go update so stay tuned.
