There was some big news this morning for Pokémon Go fans. It’s been a few months since Niantic told its community that Generation 2 Pokémon were on their way and now the time has finally come. A post on the Pokémon Go website announced 80 new Pokémon, new clothing options, genders and so much more.

The internet is abuzz with rumors about what’s coming in this Generation 2 update and I’m here to squash some of the crazier rumors traveling around the web.

Shop In The Battle Screen

In the press release for the Pokémon Go update, you can see what the drop down menu for the berries is going to look like. In the upper right corner, there seems to be a shop icon. That means, that soon you’ll be able to purchase items while in battle with a Pokémon. No more needing to run away with your Slowpoke tail between your legs when you run out of Pokéballs.

It’s an ingenious move by Niantic to try and sell more items in game. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve been stuck with six Pokeballs and a powerful Charizard or Lapras I had to let get away. If Niantic will actually let you buy Ultra and Great Balls with this feature, they will be making more money than they know what to do with. The Silph Road has a great rundown of what the new UI additions.

Can We Buy New Evolution Items?

I wouldn’t be too surprised if there was an option to buy evolution items directly through the shop. Items like Metal Coat and King’s Rock are coming to the game this week, but Niantic has said they will come from Pokéstops. Let’s say you are desperate for a Bellossom and the spawn rate of a Sun Stone is tinier than a Mr. Mime in the United States. It wouldn’t be too crazy for Niantic to charge a “finder’s fee” to those who need one in the shop.

Though none of this has been confirmed, this is still a viable theory that I think will make it into the real game.

How Will Umbreon And Espeon Evolve?

In the Pokémon games, Umbreon and Espeon evolved differently than their three elemental counterparts. Eevee would turn into the Psychic Espeon if its happiness reached full during the day or it would evolve into Umbreon if the same qualifications were met at night. In Pokémon Go , Eevee evolves into Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon through random chance. Will Umbreon and Espeon be obtainable through sheer luck?

My guess is that Umbreon and Espeon won’t be available in this wave of Pokémon Go . We are only getting 80 new Pokémon and Gold and Silver added 100 to the Pokémon lexicon. There’s just too much that has to be added to the game to give these two evolutions their due respect.

What Generation 2 Pokémon Won’t Be Coming?

We know that 20 Pokémon won’t be coming in this new update, but what exactly won’t make the cut? We can assume that the legendaries won’t be coming, sorry Entei, Suicune, Raikou, Lugia and Ho-oh. Code for Unown was found in a Pokémon Go APK, but the letter psychics will most likely be coming at a later time, maybe in their own event. That leaves at least 14 Pokémon excluded from the game, although we will have to wait till next week to know for sure.

What secrets do you think the Pokémon Go update will bring us? Tell us in the comments.
