Pokemon GO reportedly generated $176 million in August. Niantic

It has been three years since Niantic released Pokémon Go to mobile devices. And while its popularity has dwindled down for sure, it still continues to be a huge success. In fact, the month of August was deemed to be the biggest one for the mobile title.

According to a market research company SuperData, Pokémon Go’s best month since its launch was August 2019 after it successfully generated about $176 million. Not only was the month the highest point since Pokémon Go arrived in 2016, but it also made the title the top-earning game for the month on mobile devices. This success reportedly bested the usual number one title Honor of Kings.

Interestingly, SuperData added that last month’s massive earnings were largely due to the number of events Niantic introduced.

It holds true that the studio has been gradually bumping up its slew of in-game events. August, in particular, saw the introduction of both Shiny Rayquaza and Jirachi. It also brought back the Water Festival and the gift-giving event, among many others.

Considering the numbers, it is very likely that Pokémon Go will continue to be a success in the near future. Between the release of the game’s Ultra Bonuses and the debut of Gen 5 Pokémon and the new Unova Stone, September is shaping to be a busy month for the game. This is simply due to the fact that Niantic has been introducing event after event right at the start of the month. And before the month ends, players can expect the return of the legendary Pokémon Giratina, which can be found in Raid Battles.

Meanwhile, the next Community Day in Pokémon Go is expected to arrive come Saturday, October 12. The upcoming event will take place early in the day and will showcase the Gen 3 Ground Pokémon Trapinch. Players will also be given the opportunity to earn three times the usual amount of XP for catching pocket monsters during the highly anticipated event.
