After the success of Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow , and Gold and Silver on the Nintendo 3DS virtual console, Nintendo announced that Pokémon Crystal Version will arrive on the 3DS in January 2018.

Pokémon Crystal Version is the third version of the Gen 2 games and offers a more in-depth adventure in the Johto Region. Check out the official Pokémon Crystal trailer below.

Pokémon Crystal launched for the GameBoy Color in Japan 17 years ago, and now a new generation of Pokémon fans will be able to experience the next step in the evolution of this popular franchise. Crystal was the first Pokémon game with a girl playable character and the first to animate the Pokémon in battle.

Like the past virtual console Pokémon games, Crystal will keep many of the features from the original game while adding some modern updates, including allowing players to trade and battle using local wireless. The Time Capsule feature will allow players to trade and battle Pokémon from the Red, Blue and Yellow versions released in 2016.

The re-release of Crystal will also give trainers a chance to catch the mythical Pokémon Celebi after players complete the story. Celebi could only be obtained in the original Crystal Version using a special accessory.

Trainers looking to move their Pokémon from their Crystal Version will be able to use the Pokémon Bank app to move them all the way to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

Pokémon Crystal Version’s story follows the same path as Gold and Silver, but puts more of an emphasis on the Legendary Dogs Entei, Raikou and Suicune. The Water-type Suicune plays a huge role in the story.

Pokémon Crystal Version will be available to download on Jan. 26 for $9.99.
