Embark Studios has announced a game-changing update to the live-service roadmap of "Arc Raiders," moving away from monthly updates in favor of large-scale content expansions released twice a year.
According to the studio, the new approach is designed to deliver more impactful updates and improve the game's long-term sustainability.
From Monthly Patches to Major Expansions

Embark Studios originally planned to support "Arc Raiders" with monthly updates to keep the experience consistently fresh. However, executive producer Aleksander Grøndal explained that the rapid update cycle became increasingly difficult to maintain as the game evolved.
The first major expansion under this revised strategy, titled "Frozen Trail," is scheduled to launch in October.
According to Grøndal, frequent monthly releases placed pressure on development teams and limited creative freedom, resulting in smaller updates with reduced long-term impact. The studio now plans to focus on fewer but significantly larger content drops that introduce more meaningful gameplay changes.
Despite the shift in strategy, Embark confirmed that "Arc Raiders" will continue to receive regular bug fixes, balance updates, and ongoing live-service improvements between major expansions.
'Frozen Trail' Expansion Brings New Map and Systems
The upcoming "Frozen Trail" update will be the most ambitious content drop for "Arc Raiders" so far. It introduces a new Rust Belt frontier map featuring layered environments designed to encourage exploration and tactical gameplay.
Players will also encounter new ARC enemy types with enhanced behaviors and improved combat mechanics, adding fresh challenges for experienced players.
In addition, progression systems will receive a major overhaul. With many players already reaching endgame levels, the update introduces expanded skill trees, new Raider development paths, and additional progression systems to extend long-term engagement.
The expansion will also deepen the game's narrative, offering more insight into the mysterious ARC faction and its role within the game's world.
Since its launch in October 2025, "Arc Raiders" quickly gained strong momentum on Steam, peaking at over 459,000 concurrent players. While active numbers have since declined, the game remains one of the platform's most popular live-service shooters.
Community Reacts Positively to Roadmap Change
Following the announcement, the "Arc Raiders" community has largely responded positively to the shift in direction, Polygon spotted.
Many players welcomed the promise of more substantial updates and improved endgame content.
