Persona 5 Atlus

Atlus showed a demo of Persona 5 on Tuesday at E3 in Los Angeles, featuring nearly nine minutes of new footage of the game, including after-school activities, dungeon crawling and lots of fast-paced combat.

The clip below comes courtesy of IGN, though is a filmed projection from the showroom floor (Atlus isn't doing any livestreams from E3), making the quality less than ideal. Also, all the menus and dialogue are in Japanese, but it's nevertheless clear the game remains true to the franchise's stylish roots and immersive, quirky gameplay.

The footage shows the protagonist on a typical afternoon, running around Tokyo (a far more massive and detailed environment than Tatsumi Port Island in Persona 3 or Inaba from Persona 4). After visiting a few shops with Morgana riding shotgun in his school bag, our main character chats with Anne and Ryuji, who accompany him to a dungeon area called Kamoshida Palace. There's lots of battle footage, hints that dungeons will feature more interactive / puzzle elements and... um, numerous statues of human derrières wearing what appear to be heart-shaped bikini bottoms.

At around the six-minute mark in the clip, the main character gives his extra 1 More turn to Anne by using a new battle command: Baton Touch. This could open up all kinds of new combat strategies, particularly in boss fights where party composition, elemental weaknesses and turn order have a major impact on the outcome.

Persona 5 comes to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in North America on Feb. 14, 2017. You can find out more about the preorder special editions of P5 here.
