Path of Exile is launching its free expansion Scourge later this month. There are actually two dates for its release, October 22 for PC, and October 27 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

This was revealed during a stream by none other than Chris Wilson, the co-founder of Grinding Gear Games. There’s a lot of new things to expect with this new expansion like the Scourge Challenge League, new items, and new skill gems. Coming as well are the revamped passive skill tree and improved Atlas of Worlds.

You can watch the reveal trailer below:

Blood Crucible

The new expansion is set to introduce the Blood Crucible. This particular device is implanted into the bodies of players and is filled up with the blood of the monsters that they defeat. When the device has enough blood, players can then activate it to travel to a parallel and apocalyptic Wraeclast, which has been overrun by demons called The Scourge. Here in the alternate Wraeclast, players take more damage.

While in the alternate Wraeclast, players can insert items into the device. This allows the Blood Crucible to absorb the corruption while putting down Scourge. Kill enough Scourge and the device is ready to transform.

When transformed, it becomes corrupted and gets a pair of Scourged Modifiers. One is a beneficial mod while the other is detrimental. The scourged mods are in addition to the regular explicit and implicit mods or enchantments that have been placed on the item. The goal is to find the right balance between beneficial and detrimental mods to get a truly good item.

Further on the Blood Crucible, players can also place maps into it. When a map can absorb enough corruption and transforms, it also gains a beneficial and detrimental mod like the equipment does. One difference is that it also gets modified, which changes the behavior of Scourge league in that map entirely.

What do you think? Excited about this new expansion?

Path of Exile is available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
