The Overwatch 2 live stream event has provided a glimpse of what’s to come. But, one massive change to the meta has left some players fearing for their jobs.

For those who do not know, the sequel to Blizzard’s popular hero shooter is going to have a huge change in its PvP combat.

Instead of having up to 12 players on the battlefield, with each team having six members, each team will only have five members, reducing the total players to 10.

Game director Aaron Keller said that the change was made as a means of making the landscape even better for both players and viewers alike. He said that having 12 players on the battlefield could be too problematic for players to keep up with what’s going on.

While some people are okay with the change, some Overwatch pro tank players have expressed their concerns about their employment.

Tank Players May Lose Their Jobs

It is not surprising that the people who play a tank hero in the game will express their disappointment about the announcement.

Philadelphia Fusion Pro player "Poko" tweeted his feelings regarding the matter by stating that “any fellow tank player scared for their job?”

That sentiment was also echoed by other pro tank players. Vancouver Titans player "Frdwnr" tweeted that the devs' decision to change the tank meta in the game may be dangerous for some people’s careers. Although some tank players may still be employed, others will surely lose their jobs.

Frdwnr also added that the change to the PvP is disrespectful, especially to those who have sacrificed a lot to perfect their craft. These pro players were not even consulted by the devs before the decision was made.

Even though Keller and his team wanted to make the game more dynamic than ever, it is surely going to change how Overwatch 2 is played.

Tank players may become more offensive and things may be more enjoyable for the audience, but it is sad to think that some people may lose their jobs over this.

What do you feel about the sentiments of some Overwatch pro tank players? Are you with them or are you open to the major meta change in the game?
