2020 Steam Awards: Nominate the Best Games Now

It’s that time of the year again when gamers get the chance to choose their favorite game. The Steam Awards 2020 are now welcoming nominations. The nomination period started on November 5 and will end on December 1 at 1:00 PM EST.

The winners will be revealed on January 3, 2021, at 1:00 PM EST.

For those not familiar, the Steam Awards follows two phases. The first phase shows the categories. Registered users can choose one game on Steam for each category. Next, Valve reviews all nominations. Then, they select the best five games per category. The second phase lets users vote for one of the five games. The title with the most votes wins.

For this year the categories are:

  • GAME OF THE YEAR AWARD
    • Description - This is the cream of the crop.
    • Previous Winners: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (2019) and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (2018)
  • VR GAME OF THE YEAR AWARD
    • Description - The game that makes the best use of the medium and pushes boundaries.
    • Previous Winners: Beat Saber (2019) and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR (2018)
  • LABOR OF LOVE AWARD
    • Description - This game may have been released way back but the dev team continues to support it with new content still going out.
    • Previous Winners: Grand Theft Auto V (2019), Grand Theft Auto V (2018) and Warframe (2017)
  • BETTER WITH FRIENDS AWARD
    • Description - Whether you accept it or not, there are games that’s better when played with friends.
    • Previous Winners: DayZ (2019), Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege (2018) and Warframe (2017)
  • OUTSTANDING VISUAL STYLE AWARD
    • Description - There are games that just look good.
    • Previous Winner: Gris (2019)
  • MOST INNOVATIVE GAMEPLAY AWARD
    • Description - The game brings in a fresh perspective along with a newness never played before.
    • Previous Winner: My Friend Pedro (2019)
  • BEST GAME YOU SUCK AT AWARD
    • Description - Tough as the game may be, it’s one that a lot of gamers love.
    • Previous Winner: Mortal Kombat 11 (2019)
  • BEST SOUNDTRACK AWARD
    • Description - It’s not all visuals as music is also key.
  • OUTSTANDING STORY-RICH GAME AWARD
    • Description - A good story is sure to hook many gamers.
    • Previous Winner: A Plague Tale: Innocence (2019)
  • SIT BACK AND RELAX AWARD
    • Description - There are games that are just excellent in helping you slow things down.
