After the many rumors surrounding a June Direct event, Nintendo has confirmed that it is indeed holding a special showcase this month to bring more news about what it has to offer for the latest console, the Switch 2.
However, the company has also already confirmed that this would only be a short showcase of what is to come.
Nintendo June Direct 2025 Event Confirmed
Nintendo shared on its website that there will be an upcoming Direct event slated for this month, as the Kyoto-based company is holding a dedicated showcase for its most famous ape, focusing on his upcoming feature game, "Donkey Kong: Bananza."
The Direct event will take place on June 18, and it will stream live on Nintendo's YouTube account starting at 6 a.m. Pacific Time or 9 a.m. Eastern Time, available for fans to tune into. This latest confirmation may be disappointing to some, particularly as they expect that the previously rumored Direct event for June would bring more information about other games coming to the Switch 2.
It is important to know that the Switch 2 still has a few first-party games available in the library, and most of the available titles to enjoy on the successor console are ports from the original console. For now, only "Mario Kart World" is the first-party title from Nintendo that is available for players to enjoy.
Still, this new event is in preparation for "Donkey Kong: Bananza's" upcoming release date slated for next month, with Nintendo looking to give fans more information and expectations on what the game will bring soon.
There's a Catch: It's a Short Direct
Apart from this upcoming June Direct 2025 event being an exclusive showcase for the upcoming RPG title, it is also expected to be short, and according to ComicBook Gaming, it would only run for 15 minutes. That being said, it is a fitting showcase for Donkey Kong as this is his first original game in several years, with the latest one for the original Switch known to be only a remaster.
"Donkey Kong: Bananza" is officially dropping on July 17, and the Direct event may also be the event that officially unveils the developers behind "Donkey Kong: Bananza," particularly as Nintendo has yet to confirm it.
That being said, there are already speculations on which studio is behind "Bananza's" development, and according to reports, it is Nintendo EPD, the same studio that delivered "Super Mario Odyssey."
