A wave of new insider reports is painting a wild picture of the next game in the "God of War" universe, coming soon from Sony.
Multiple reports claim that there will be massive changes to this single-player game as it will now feature two protagonists, multiple mythologies, and a new companion to travel alongside players.
Next 'God of War' Game to Feature Multiple Mythologies
The new "God of War" game is set to go far beyond any single mythology. According to GameRant's report (via MP1st), East-Asian mythology will be part of it as they have heard that elements from Chinese and Japanese mythologies will be part of a new entry in the series.
The prequel will also explore several other mythologies, such as Mayan and more, which isn't surprising to those who played the 2018 refresh of the "God of War" series.
The franchise has been quietly building toward this. As far back as "God of War" in 2018, developers hinted at the existence of other pantheons outside the Norse world. This next game appears to be the payoff for all those hints.
An announcement could be very close. Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson said in a podcast that the next mainline "God of War" game will be announced this month.
'God of War' Sequel: Two Protagonists, a Gelatinous Cube
Beyond the mythology details, insiders have dropped some genuinely surprising information about the game's characters and companions. There will reportedly be two playable characters, possibly Faye and Tyr.
Then things get unusual. Among all the alleged details shared by a FandomWire writer in a Reddit comment, the game a sentient gelatinous cube as a companion.
As also mentioned in previous leaks, there will be a talking sword that is called "Merlin," which is unexpected as this leans closer to the Arthurian legend, which is several millennia later compared to the game's original timeline.
It was also revealed that Kratos may still make an appearance in this sequel game, with the iconic main protagonist in all of the games still living on. That said, it remains unconfirmed what the extent of his role is in this new title.
The sources claimed that, should Sony announce a new State of Play or PlayStation Presentation this month, it may be for a "God of War" game, if not a "Marvel's Wolverine," as rumored.
