The highly-anticipated Rogue One: A Star Wars Story release date is slowly creeping up as the anthology movie is slated to arrive in theaters this December. Earlier in the summer, Rogue One suffered a bit of bad publicity when news reports revealed major reshoots were necessary. Thankfully, reshoots were completed earlier this month. What's more, new pictures from the set have surfaced via blog via Making Star Wars.
The images are believed to feature backdrops of the planet Jedha, said to be the mecca of the Star Wars galaxy. Via Screenrant, the Empire had immense grip of the galaxy and was interested in Jedha in particular, due to the planet's resource of a rare element necessary to make a lightsaber. The Jedha scenes in Rogue One is expected to explore the Empire's influence and the way an Imperial occupation can destroy a planet.
Rogue One stars Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Riz Ahmed as Bodhi Rook, Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma, Ben Mendelsohn as Orson Krennic, Mads Mikkelsen as Galen Erso, Wen Jiang as Baze Malbus, Jimmy Smits as Bail Organa, Diego Luna as Captain Cassian Andor, Alan Tudyk as K-2SO, Donnie Yen as Chirrut Imew and James Earl Jones returning as the voice of Darth Vader.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives in theaters Dec. 16. Star Wars: Episode VIII is slated to follow on Dec. 15, 2017, the Han Solo solo movie is expected on May 25, 2018, Star Wars: Episode IX in 2019 and finally a third Star Wars anthology movie in 2020.
