NBA 2K17 has a brand new tweak that partially fixes the notorious shot meter glitch and offers adjustments to penalties and rewarded play styles. Recent tweets from 2K Sports gameplay director Mike Wang contain all the details.

NBA 2K17’s shot meter glitch has been punishing players for weeks, and it was initially addressed in a server-side tweak Wednesday morning. “This is a temp band-aid fix for shot meter glitch till patch drops,” Wang said. Prior to the adjustment, a player’s shot meter would suddenly drop from full to half capacity just before releasing jumpers. Under the current system, the meter still drops, but shots will land in the basket if they’re supposed to.

In addition to resolving this chronic issue, penalties were also eased up for late release shots. Open and contested AI defense also got an overhaul to ensure that more baskets are made across the board. However, since those changes were published, Wang has gone on record to admit that maybe they were “a little too conservative.” As a result, Thursday’s tuning will reportedly “further reduce very late release penalties, reward open shots and punish contested ones. I think you guys will like it,” he added.

As for the next major downloadable update for NBA 2K17, it will presumably be numbered at 1.04 and will introduce a complete fix for the shot meter glitch. Other areas under investigation are the nerfed Ankle Breaker Badge and bugs related to the game’s Connections feature. Players have also reported input lag during online matches that might possibly be addressed. No word has been given on when the future patch will be released, but, since 1.03 just recently rolled out to PC, some patience may be required.

NBA 2K17 is available now on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC.
