A new release from NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games has fans furious as it is being speculated that "Mortal Kombat 1" is nearing its end of support. This is because the studios behind it have released the latest "Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition," which compiles all the content that the developers have released over the years.

In the gaming industry, a complete or definitive edition usually signifies that it is the end for the game, but that has not been entirely the case for all titles as developers have dealt with things differently.

'Mortal Kombat 1' Ending Support?

Fans are now sharing their sentiments over the latest developments on "Mortal Kombat 1," particularly as many now believe that the game's developer and publisher are ending support soon. There are a few who are now questioning the previous claims and promises made by Mortal Kombat's executives, particularly Ed Boon, whose post from September 2023 was brought up.

In this post by Boon, he revealed that the current game, which is best known to be a revamp to the entire fighting franchise, would receive post-launch content regularly. The director also previously promised that "Mortal Kombat 1" would bring additional content in the form of new fighters compared to the previous title, "Mortal Kombat 11."

That being said, the fans' reactions are not baseless, particularly with the recent announcement from NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games that they are releasing a "Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition."

It is important to note that this Definitive Edition brings all the content that "MK1" has released over the past years, from all the DLC characters, down to new stages, and more.

Is 'Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition' a Goodbye?

According to ComicBook Gaming, this is not exactly a confirmation that "Mortal Kombat 1" is dead or the companies behind it have ended its support, so this does not mean goodbye yet for fans of the fighting franchise. However, the existence of the Definitive Edition is already a threat to the game's longevity and future support, particularly as it is a somewhat confirmation that no more new fighters, stages, and expansions are coming.

With this, it is expected that players and fans would still receive new updates or patches from NetherRealm Studios that would help improve the gameplay and experiences of the current title. However, in terms of major updates like new content to enjoy or characters to play with, there should be no longer any expectations now that the Definitive Edition is here.
