Baseball fans’ highly anticipated MLB The Show 17 will finally arrive on Mar. 28. With less than two weeks until its release date, Sony continues to announce new additions to MLB The Show and this week, the conversation switched to Road To The Show.

Road To The Show allows players to experience a career through a single athlete, starting their career as a minor league baseball player in a story format called “Pave Your Path.” From there, your promotion, or in some cases demotion, is based on your play as you progress through the minors. This year, Sony is making Road To The Show more of an RPG mode for MLB The Show 17 . Not only will your play determine your future in baseball, but your interactions with numerous people inside your career will play a role in your career.

Here’s a little more detail from Sony.

“As your career unfolds, you will occasionally interact with coaches, managers, representatives, and more, facing choices that can influence your future path and your road to the show. Your actions, their effects, and the narrator’s insights explore beyond not only your on-field performance, but also your off-the-field aspects of being a professional ballplayer.”

Similar to NBA 2K’s MyPlayer and MyGM modes, there will be cutscenes within Road To The Show. Your reactions to the interactions between your hitting coach or even your general manager will shape your player’s perception to his team, the entire organization, and the fans. For every decision you make, a god-like voice narrates your choice and will be with you every step of the way throughout your career. Similar to Ken Griffey Jr. randomly speaking throughout Retro Mode, the narrator in Road To The Show could become that little annoying feature for some, especially if you chose the wrong path for your player.

In an interview with Polygon, game designer and community manager Ramone Russell mentioned that Sony would be adding elements to Road To The Show after the release of MLB The Show 17 . This has been common for the career mode in FIFA 17 , but with those updates, there was not anything substantial inside those patches. For Road To The Show, the question will be how big the updates will be and what impact it will make on already in-progress players of Road To The Show.

The biggest feature of Road To The Show within Pave Your Path is the possibility of players not staying at their selected position throughout the mode. According to Russell, the team at Sony spoke to numerous major league players such as Washington Nationals player Trea Turner, who started his career as a shortstop and now plays in the major leagues as a center fielder. The experience of switching positions will be covered in Road To The Show and getting input from current MLB players adds a new dimension to the mode that makes it very interesting.

With the changes within Road To The Show, MLB The Show 17 has covered their bases in making the game better than last year’s great edition. With just two weeks until its release, this version of MLB The Show is aiming to be the best edition of the game in the franchise’s history.
