There have been video games released in the past where players take on the role of a shark. Maneater, however, offers something new as it invites players to experience what it means to be the apex predator of the seas. This action RPG, or ShaRkPG, is set to arrive on May 22, 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox one, and PC.

To heighten the excitement even further, Maneater released a trailer during The Game Awards 2019. You can view it below:

So what's the game all about? This single-player action-RPG has players fight to survive as a baby bull shark. They then need to grow in power as they explore a wide range of different underwater environments from swamps, to rivers, to beachside resorts, and especially the deep blue sea. To survive, players need to use their wits, jaws, and the uncanny ability to evolve as they feed. Ultimately, it's the three E's which are Eat, Explore, and Evolve.

Tripwire Interactive CEO and Co-owner John Gibson said in a press statement that they continue to be blown away by the excitement and interest that fans have for Maneater. This is why, according to Gibson, they are "happy to announce this unique ShARkPG experience is coming to all major console platforms, and we're excited to be partnering with Deep Silver to land this big shark on consoles worldwide."

Meanwhile, Koch Media Gmb CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz said in the press statement that they are more than happy to "re-new our partnership with Tripwire Interactive and to team up for the upcoming launch of Maneater." Koch Media is the parent company of Deep Silver, Inc. Dr. Kundratitz went on to say that their "teams around the globe who successfully released Killing Floor 2 are eager to support the game with all our distribution and marketing experience."

Deep Silver COO Geoff Mulligan shared that it was impossible not to partner with Tripwire for what may be the world’s first ShaRkPG. He added that they were immediately hooked on the game and "are excited to support the marketing and distribution of this jaw-some title."

There's also good news for those who pre-order Maneater with the reveal that a Tiger Shark Adaptation is going to be available at participating retail partners. Often called the "Garbage Can of the Ocean," the tiger shark evolution allows players to eat almost anything and thus increase their ability to gain important nutrients from their prey.

More official news and details are set to be released after the holidays as development continues.
