If there’s one thing Microsoft and Xbox can do better than Sony and PlayStation at, it’s the company’s penchant for releasing pure aesthetic and sometimes over-the-top custom consoles. Just this past few weeks, we’ve seen customized Xbox One X’s for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Game of Thrones, and A Plague Tale: Innocence. The next limited edition offering, however, could be the real deal sweetener for players wanting an actual customized console.
A leak from German website WinFuture has the details for an upcoming Fortnite special edition bundle for the Xbox One S. It’s sleek, it’s shiny and it’s very purple – although it’s the stylish purple, not the tacky one. According to the leak, the Xbox One S included will have a 1 TB capacity and has a Blu-ray player – this is not one of those All-Digital Xbox One S consoles available now. From the photos provided by WinFuture, it would seem that the purple color choice is two-tone, giving it a very distinct look. Other than the color scheme, there’s not many changes worth noting, which is a nice surprise as I prefer color palette swaps as opposed to design additions. The bundle also comes with a purple wireless Xbox controller in the same hue as the darker purple on the Xbox One S. The face buttons’ letters are also changed to purple, meaning you’ll miss out on the yellow-blue-red-green scheme of the original. Both the console and the controller have the Xbox logo unchanged, which is kind of nice as its white color contrasts really well with the purple color scheme.
The Xbox One S Fortnite Limited Edition Bundle, as it’s called, will go for the price of $299, and will be made available in the US and Europe. For that price, however, you get Fortnite already bundled in, 2,000 V-Bucks to use in the game, plus a free month’s worth of subscription for Xbox Live Gold, EA Access and Xbox Game Pass. To go with that shiny new purple console, Fortnite players will also get a free ‘Dark Vertex’ skin which they can redeem in-game.
