Square Enix and Avalanche Studios have released a massive update for Just Cause 4, which seeks to provide some much-needed content and fixes to its playerbase.

Just Cause 4 has been available since December of last year, and during that time, it went through some pretty rigorous overhauling. The game wasn’t in the best state when it was released, owing to a large number of bugs present that are literally game-breaking. I was a big fan of the previous two, Just Cause 2 and Just Cause 3, so I decided to give this one a try as well. Needless to say, that while I was a big fan of the big open world gameplay, everything else was a miss. The thing that put me off entirely, though, was the constant crashing, even on my somewhat high-end system.

That said, it’s nice to see Square Enix and Avalanche do everything they can in their power to try and fix the game for those still looking to play it. While I cannot recommend Just Cause 4 in its current state, you can get it with a massive 60 percent discount on Steam. Check it out here if you’re interested.

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at what’s new for this latest development update for Just Cause 4, along with a first look at the game’s upcoming DLC, Los Demonios. Check out the full patch notes here.

Just Cause 4 Spring Update

  • Improvements to world lighting – significantly improved, with global lighting presets tuned and materials modified to provide better visibility and overall vibrance. Lighting is also richer and more dynamic. Nighttime visibility has also been improved significantly. The vegetation and biomes were also tuned, making them feel more vibrant in color.
  • Destructible Black Hand statues – destructible statues make a return in Just Cause 4, although I’d argue that they were supposed to be there at launch. That said, they’re in the game now, and you can take them down via a myriad of creative ways. My favorite has always been to just use a grappling hook and tether it to a moving car.
  • Improved Black Hand combat – Black Hand combat vehicle AI has been significantly improved, making them far more aggressive and smarter during fights. Black Hand patrols have also been increased significantly.
  • New Mobile Chaos objects – the spring update also boasts new mobile chaos objects being transported by trucks or Sky Cranes, allowing for more opportunities for destructive chaos.
  • Destructible metal train bridges – metal train bridges and tracks are now fully destructible, allowing you to explode and break them off, having their chunks fly off in different directions.

New DLC

Square Enix has also announced its newest DLC for owners of the expansion pass, called Los Demonios. The DLC sees Rico face off against an ancient demonic force that invades Solis, while armed with a demon-killing crossbow. Check out the trailer below.

Just Cause 4 is now available to play on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
