Honkai Impact 3rd announced its collaboration with none other than Neon Genesis Evangelion. With this, fans of both titles would be able to get the chance to go head-to-head with angels. The event is heading to PC, Android, and iOS.

While no other details were revealed about this collaboration, a concept trailer was released that you can watch below:

Honkai Impact 3rd is developed by miHoYo and is mainly known for leveraging different game genres. It has hack-and-slash elements along with social simulation components. It even has dungeon crawling, shoot ‘em up, and platforming. The game was first released in China in 2016 and eventually reached the US by 2018. Since then, it has made more than 200 million downloads.

The game is set in a modern world but one that’s been corrupted with a mysterious energy known as Honkai. A group of girls that carry the anti-Honkai genome banded together to form the Valkyries to fight the spreading Honkai disaster.

miHoYo's CEO Liu Wei said that Neon Genesis Evangelion has a large role when it comes to the history of anime. Its core echoes the game since both the Valkyries and the NERV of the series are fighting to save the world. Evangelion remains to be successful and it’s no surprise that its latest movie will cater to fans. Liu Wei added that they are happy with this “upcoming collaboration because it can create something genuinely unique.”

Old School Anime

Neon Genesis Evangelion tells the story of an organization known as NERV that uses Evangelions to fight hostile beings known as Angels. The anime aired from October 1995 to March 1996. It was considered a groundbreaking anime because of what it brought to the mecha genre. The series wasn’t all about fights for it also explored philosophical, psychological, and even religious themes. The success of the series then gave rise to two films.

The latest addition to the franchise is Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, which is the fourth film in the new Rebuild of Evangelion series. It’s set to be released on January 23, 2021.
