IO Interactive announced that it had entered into a publishing and distribution agreement with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Under this agreement, the two studios are going to introduce a new gaming experience not only to PC players, but also console players around the world. The agreement did not mention or provide hints as to what this new game is all about.
Based in Copenhagen, IO recently opened another studio in Sweden. IO is best know for the Hitman franchise, which so far includes seven games. According to IO, the addition of its Sweden studio is going to be important particularly in the development of this new game under the agreement with WB.
IO CEO Hakan Abrak shared in a statement that over the past few year, WB has managed to show that they not only understand IO's creative vision, but also respect it. As such, he added that IO is more than looking forward to this continuing relationship. Abrak went on to say that the studio has a long history when it comes to developing compelling characters and creating universes for players worldwide to enjoy. Abrak related that as they "embark on this exciting project to create a new universe for IOI together with Warner Bros., we’re currently looking for ambitious talent to join our team in our Copenhagen and Malmö studios for this extraordinary journey.”
Meanwhile WBIE President David Haddad revealed that "IO Interactive has a longstanding legacy of creating iconic games, and we’re looking forward to partnering on this next endeavor to bring a new console and PC gaming experience to players globally." He added that they are happy to continue this relationship with the talented folks over at IO.
As part of the agreement, IO revealed that it is currently seeking talent to work at their Copenhagen and Sweden studios. You can read more here.
Aside from the Hitman franchise, IO Interactive has the Kane & Lynch: Dead Men series under its belt. The studio also has a more family friendly game with Mini Ninjas. It was in 2018 when IO first partnered with WB for the release of Hitman 2, Hitman; Definitive Edition, and Hitman HD Enhanced Collection.
