Hearthstone: Patch 24.2.2 Nerfs Wildheart Guff and Edwin, Defias Kingpin

A bunch of nerfs.
A bunch of nerfs. Blizzard

A new patch went live in Hearthstone, which nerfed two cards. Patch 24.2.2 lowered the power of many cards, including Wildheart Guff and Edwin, Defias Kingpin. There are also updates in Battlegrounds and Duels and the usual bug fixes and improvements.

For Wildheart Guff, the change was:

  • Old: Battlecry and Hero Power granted full mana crystals.
  • New: Battlecry and Hero Power grant empty mana crystals.

According to the dev team, Ramp Druid is considered the most powerful and influential deck in the game with this patch. The only outlier was this card. Looking at the change, it's clear that Wildheart Guff is still playable, but the change is sure to let players feel like there is more of a cost to ramping it up.

For Edwin, Defias Kingpin, the change was:

  • Old: [Costs 3] 3 Attack, 3 Health
  • New: [Costs 4] 4 Attack, 4 Health

Edwin had been buffed in the last patch, and this made him one of the most highly played and winningest cards. It was clear that he would be getting a nerf. While Edwin does cost more, his attack and health are also increased. So even with the cost increased, the other adjustments ensure that he remains in the meta.

Other cards that had their power decreased are:

  • Arcane Burst (Magister Dawngrasp’s Hero Power)
    • Old: Deal 2 damage. Honorable Kill: Gain +2 damage.
    • New: Deal 2 damage. Honorable Kill: Gain +1 damage.
  • Nightcloak Sanctum
    • Old: 3 Durability
    • New: 2 Durability
  • Defend the Dwarven District (the first stage of the Hunter Questline)
    • Old: Deal damage with 2 spells.
    • New: Deal damage with 3 spells.
  • Kael’thas Sinstrider
    • Old: [Costs 6]
    • New: [Costs 8]
  • Smothering Starfish
    • Old: [Costs 3]
    • New: [Costs 4]

Power Up

While there's no question that a lot of cards had their power lowered, two cards received buffs in this patch. The first is School Teacher whose health has increased from three to four. School Teacher was one of the most played cards before its power was reduced in a previous patch. This slight change hopes to make players bring back the card to their decks.

Another card is Alliance Bannerman whose health was increased by one point. For this change, the goal was to make the game more fun, and to make this happen, the team needed to bring up the class to a level where players would feel like there was something worth exploring.
