A new character is arriving in Guilty Gear -Strive- tomorrow, January 28. It's none other than Guilty Gear franchise favorite Baiken. This wandering samurai is the fourth playable character to join the game as part of Season 1 Pass. Those who don't have the pass can get Baiken for $6.99 beginning January 31.

Baiken was one of the original unlockable bosses back in the first Guilty Gear game. Since then, she's become a major hit for many players. It helped that her backstory created immediate intrigue among fans and players alike. Her story tells the tragedy of family loss combined with her path to vengeance.

Once Baiken goes live in Guilty Gear -Strive-, it's going to increase the roster to 19 characters. She also joins Goldlewis Dickinson, Jack-O, and Happy Chaos in the Season 1 Pass. Season Pass 1 DLC is priced at $29.99 and has a lot of other goodies like two battle stages, a color pack, and story content.

Sword Attacks

Baiken fights using powerful sword attacks along with various concealed weapons. In terms of playstyle, she's an all-rounder with well-balanced defense and offense moves. Some of her abilities are:

  • Tatami Gaeshi
    • Used for close-range strings and maintaining offense.
  • Kabari
    • Has excellent range and can draw opponents toward Baiken.
  • Youzansen
    • Works well to mix-up blocking opponents.
  • Hiiragi
    • Counters opponents' attacks at close range and deals major damage with a counterattack.

New Battle Stage

In addition to Baiken, players can also look forward to a new battle stage Lap of the Kami tomorrow. This is a Japanese-style stage mainly based on the theme of mysterious “red seals.” It features wonderful vistas with rich and colorful forests.

New Game Mode

There’s also a free game mode called Combo Maker. Here, players can create and share their own original combo sequences of moves with others. Players can also learn new moves here while getting the chance to practice more difficult combos. Basically, the mode gives the community a new way to collaborate.

You can watch more about what this new game mode has to offer here. Guilty Gear -Strive- is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
