Gamescom is happening throughout the week, and as such gamers can expect a ton of new announcements surrounding highly anticipated titles, as well as new releases from publishers and developers. Nothing beats the excitement surrounding fresh news on upcoming titles, and these are at the center of the five-day major gaming event at the Koelmnesse in Germany. Be sure to stay tuned with us the whole week as we bring you the latest from Gamescom 2019 in the form of the latest trailers, announcements, news and other information drops on all the newest games hitting the market.

After a teaser announcement a few days before Gamescom, Rockfish Games have now officially announced their new space project during the event. It’s a bit surprising to say the least, since it appears that the game is actually a sequel to Everspace rather than an entirely new game, but unlike the former it will not be a roguelike. Everspace 2 will be bringing that beautiful and highly enjoyable arcade space shooting experience into a vast open world RPG experience, where exploration, loot and tons of secrets await. Check out the official announcement trailer below, followed by a 20-minute gameplay walkthrough specially made by the developers for players who won’t be attending Gamescom.

From the looks of it, Rockfish truly has gone beyond to bring what made Everspace so enjoyable and gave it to something that will resonate with a bigger audience: open-world gameplay. As much as I adore Everspace, there were some people who found it to be frustrating as a roguelike, especially when you consider that the dogfighting mechanics are topnotch. With Everspace 2, you still get that arcade space shooting experience, albeit now with more leeway and direction as to how you would approach the game, rather than this trial-and-error title built upon the mechanic of dying and reviving once again.

Everspace 2 will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam in 2021.

Be sure to stick around for more news on the latest happenings from Gamescom all throughout the week.
