Publisher Square Enix has just announced that they will be releasing a digital version of the RPG Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition in the West for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android on August 27.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is an action role-playing game that was initially released in 2003 for the Nintendo GameCube. Crystal Chronicles follows the journey of a caravan searching the world for trees producing myrrh – which is used to fuel crystals that protect the world from the poisonous Miasma. Players start off with the option to choose from four races that each have their own unique strengths and abilities. The game can be played solo or with up to three additional players.

So, what does the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition contain? In an overview, a decent pun details what fans of the original should expect: “As mentioned, a host of enhancements and features have been added to this new game—so much so we should probably call it Remastered Addition. I mean, yes, that’s a terrible pun that barely makes sense, but the overall point stands.”.

First off, the remastered Crystal Chronicles includes improved visuals and audio with its updated HD graphics and enhanced sounds that will bring out more from its impressive soundtrack, including new voice over work. Next is the game’s added online multiplayer with cross-play enabled, making it much easier to play with friends, even with those on different platforms. Gameplay wise, new challenging dungeons have been added along with a new feature called “Mimic”. By collecting stamps, Moogle Houses, or completing difficult dungeons, players get Memory Crystals that can be used to change their character’s appearance to that of various NPCs that they come across on their adventure.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will be launching digitally for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android on August 27. No pricing has been confirmed yet.
