Those who’ve long waited to experience The Luminary’s journey across Erdrea can now do so. Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition is now available for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game was actually released for the Nintendo Switch back in September 2019.

The first game Dragon Quest went out in the US in 1984. If you’re keeping count, that's about 36 years ago. Back then, it was titled, Dragon Warrior.

Players take on the role of The Luminary joined by loyal companions. There are more than 100 hours of gameplay offered. In the game, the hunted Hero travels across continents and oceans to know more about the mystery of his past. This version of the game was made possible by series creator Yuji Horii, character designer Akira Toriyama, and series composer Koichi Sugiyama.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition comes with both nostalgia and new features and improvements. Some changes include:

  • New character side stories
    • Get to know more about the cast of companions with individual side stories and adventures.
  • Retro 2D mode
    • 3D may be the way to go but players have the choice to go retro with 2D.
  • 16-bit World of Tickington
    • Take a journey in the Dragon Quest worlds that comes with side-quests that have been reimagined in the retro style.
  • Japanese audio
    • There’s the option to play the game in the new Japanese voice-over or the original Enlgh.
  • Fully Orchestrated Soundtrack
    • Players now have the ability to switch between the original synthesized soundtrack and symphonic version.
  • Photo mode
    • Get the perfect image and immortalize your perfect image.
  • Players can also take advantage of the features like, among others:
    • Photo Mode
    • Additional Draconian Mode options
    • Adjustable Battle Speeds

A downloadable demo with as much as 10 hours of content is free. This is a good trial for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One players. Those who later buy the full game can transfer their progress from the demo. That’s not all. As players finish the demo’s main scenario, they'll get three “Seed of Skill.” This gives players extra skill points when consumed. The seeds are usable either in the demo or continuing in the full game.
