Disbanded again.
Disbanded again. Cloud9

It seems like the second time isn’t always the charm as Cloud9 revealed it is leaving competitive Dota 2. If you’ve been keeping count like we were, that’s just three months since they first announced their return to the Dota 2 scene.

In a statement released, the organization didn’t mention any reason for the decision with Team Manager Ysabel Noukky Müller stating that “it was great working with these players and I want to thank them for being professional throughout and buying into our vision and company values." With this, all members of the roster have been released and are now available to be signed by other organizations.

It was in late January of this year when the organization made a return to Dota 2 with a line-up composed of Andrei “skem” Ong, Cheng “vtFaded” Jia Hao, Rasmus “MISERY” Filipsen, Francis “Flee” Lee, and Johan “pieliedie” Astrom. The team also made the decision to play in the Southeast Asia region.

Its first competition was during the Southeast Asia Open Qualifiers for the ESL One Los Angeles 2020. The team managed to move to the second round before it was eliminated.

By early March Cloud9 made a big roster move. Both skem and vtFaded were benched and Flee was released from the roster. The team then signed on Jacky “EternalEnVy” Mao, Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard, and Jingjun “Sneyking” Wu.

Even with the roster change, things didn’t work out well for the team. Cloud9 received a direct invite for the Dota Summit 12, but the team placed last and had zero wins. The next was the WeSave! Charity Play, were they faced former team members in CR4ZY, formerly Fighting PandaS. Cloud9 only managed one win before being eliminated. Finally, there was the BTS Pro Series: Americas where they finished with a 3-4 record before being eliminated again by CR4ZY in the first round of the Playoffs.

So what’s next for the former members? Well it appears that EternalEnvy and Sneyking may have some prospects as they are currently standing in over at business associates for the Dota 2 BEAT Invitational Season 9. This was because Joel Mori “moOz” Ozambela decided to leave business associates and Leon “Nine” Kirilin is taking a break from the competitive scene. If you ask us, they’re probably going to be absorbed by the team.

So what do you think? What are your thoughts on Cloud9 disbanding again? Do you think the organization will try to form a Dota 2 team for a third time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
