Dota 2: Muerta Gets Much Needed Buff to Fulfill Carry Role

Getting a buff.
Getting a buff. Valve

When a new hero is introduced in Dota 2, a new patch is usually released after a few days nerfing that hero. This is because once players get to try them, the usual comment is that the hero is to OP; however, Valve is going a different direction for Muerta. Introduced a few weeks back, this gunslinger joined the roster with some cool abilities.

It seems that it wasn't cool enough as a small update was released that pretty much buffed Muerta. Changes include:

  • Base Attack Time improved from 1.7 to 1.6 seconds.
  • Dead Shot Ricochet Fear Duration decreased from 1.25/1.5/1.75/2.0 to 1.0/1.2/1.4/1.6 seconds.
  • Pierce the Veil Duration increased by 0.35 second to account for Transform Duration.
  • Pierce the Veil Bonus Attack Damage increased from 50/75/100 to 50/100/150.
  • Level 25 Talent +20% Gunslinger Chance replaced with The Calling Summons 2 additional revenants.
  • Level 20 Talent The Calling Summons 2 additional revenants replaced with Talent +20% Gunslinger Chance.
  • Level 15 Talent +25 Damage increased to +35 Damage.

Why these changes? When Muerta was released, she was categorized as a carry. But as a ranged hero, she was compared to others of similar nature in the current meta like Nature's Prophet and Lina. This made the new hero a carry but not enough as a top-tier pick.

With these changes, it's clear that Muerta now has better chances of being a good enough carry for players to choose. After all, there's the increase in the bonus attack damage for “Pierce the Veil” along with the boost in damage for the Level 15 Talent.

Patch 7.33

While the release of Patch 7.32e meant the addition of a new hero to the roster, a lot of players weren’t really that happy considering they were expecting a more comprehensive update through Patch 7.33.

Valve did address it a while back admitting that they knew players were expecting Patch 7.33. The studio revealed that they’re still working on this update and plan to release it in late April.

However, there's a new problem with that announcement. Looking at the schedule, the Spring Tour is likely to end in early April. Based on what's happened before, there's a chance that Berlin Major will also be in April. You see the problem? If Patch 7.33 pushes through, it means a major update is coming out in the middle of a big tournament. There are only two possible solutions here: either the release of the patch gets delayed or the tournament is moved to May.
