Dota 2 Arlington Major: Team Aster and PSG.LGD Leading After Group Stage

There’s one more day left for the Group Stage of the ongoing Dota 2 Arlington Major. However, it was clear early on that the teams from China were leading the pack. In Group A, it’s PSG.LGD while Team Aster in Group B, which both secured a spot in the Playoffs.

The matches for the Playoffs start tomorrow, August 9, with the Grand Final happening on August 15; that’s one week of Dota 2 matches. The Playoffs follow a double-elimination bracket with all matches at Bo3 and the Grand Final at Bo5.

Group A

Group A still has matches left today but it’s clear that it’s PSG.LGD at the top. It retains first place even if it loses in its match today against Thunder Awaken. Other matches scheduled today are:

  • Talon Esports vs. OG
  • Soniqs vs. Outsiders
  • Royal Never Give Up vs. Team Liquid

Of all the teams in this group, it’s Fnatic that has no more matches and, as of this writing, sits in second place. There’s still a lot that could happen but it’s safe to say Fnatic is headed to the Playoffs. What we can’t still say is if they’re in the Upper Bracket or Lower Bracket. This is going to depend on a lot of factors.

Group B

Group B has finished all its matches and coming out on top is Team Aster. Unlike PSG.LGD, who pretty much dominated their group, Aster managed to get enough wins for a first-place finish after the Group Stage.

Aster is followed by Team Entity and Team Spirit, both having the same standings. Rounding up the teams headed to the Upper Bracket of the Playoffs is BOOM Esports.

Evil Geniuses managed to hold on and get into the Playoffs though they’ll be starting in the Lower Bracket, the same with Beastcoast.

With matches over for Group B, that means it’s time to say goodbye to Natus Vincere and Tundra Esports, both out of the tournament with no cash and no DPC Points. That’s more painful for Tundra who needed just a few points to get a direct invite.

What about you? What did you think of the tournament so far? Who do you expect to see in the Grand Final?
