It was back in January of this year when DC Universe Online announced that Episode 40 is related to Flashpoint. Recently, developers confirmed that the upcoming episode is titled "World of Flashpoint." Yes, it’s not that creative but it still works, and this new episode is launching in April 2021.

The Original Storyline

Flashpoint is a DC Comics storyline released in 2011. It’s set in an alternate universe, one where Barry Allen, also known as The Flash, is the only one who remembers the difference between the original and altered realities.

In this particular universe, Aquaman and Atlantis are at war with Wonder Woman and the Amazons. Over in Gotham City, the Batman is not Bruce but his father, Thomas Wayne.

The Game Version

In the game version, it’s up to both Super Heroes and Super Villains to return the world to what it was before. For this new episode, players can expect:

  • The World of Flashpoint offers standard and elite versions of all On Duty content.
    • This includes level-agnostic event versions that are available for a limited time.
  • The content includes open-world missions in addition to a duo, an alert, and two raids.
  • The episode features Flashpoint-inspired versions of DC's most iconic characters, which include, among others, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Cyborg.
  • The storyline includes adventures set across a wide range of Flashpoint-inspired locales, including Flashpoint Gotham City and Nightmare Central City.
  • The episode offers new player rewards, including gear, styles, base items, and feats.

About the New Episode

In a post, Senior Producer Landon Falls said that they are excited to add elements of Flashpoint to the game, especially during its anniversary. Meanwhile, Lead Content Designer Rob Frazier shared that they’ve been leading to this episode even during Wonderverse. He added that this episode is sure to make players happy since it brings together several stories.

Finally, from CEO Jack Emmert, the Flashpoint storyline was memorable mainly because the central focus was on The Flash. For many, Barry Allen has always been about Central City and his biggest contribution so far has been on Crisis on Infinite Earths. Emmert continued that Flashpoint not only highlights the personal history of The Flash but also his impact on the DC Universe at large.

DC Universe Online is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
