Following the leak from EB Games Canada in May, we now have confirmation from publisher THQ Nordic and developer Gunfire Games that Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch next month. The game will get a much-awaited physical and digital release on the platform, which is sure to please those who are looking to get a physical copy of the game. It will be made available for $29.99, and to celebrate the announcement, THQ Nordic has also released a trailer for Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition on the Switch.

At the start of the trailer, you can quickly notice how on comparable the Switch version is to the original Deathinitive Edition releases for other consoles back in 2015. However, once the gameplay starts, there is a very noticeable stuttering, which really worries me. I personally would’ve downgraded it a bit more just to reach an acceptable framerate without any stuttering involved. It also seems to happen when there’s a lot going on in the screen. Footage of the boss fight against the corrupted Guardian makes the frame rate shown look absolutely horrid.

Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition was originally released back in 2015 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Before that, the original Darksiders II was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2012. It follows the journey of the eldest Horseman, Death, as the story runs parallel to the original Darksiders; Death is on a journey to absolve War of his supposed crime of bringing about the Apocalypse early, which pits him against the Corruption, a malefic entity caused by the hatred of Absalom, the first Nephilim.

Of all the three Darksiders titles, Darksiders II is the one I’d call the best one thanks to its accessible, yet thoroughly engaging combat. Death is also an amazingly well-written character, and an underrated one at that – it’s worth noting his growth over the story meshes with how great the gameplay is. It’s a shame that the Switch release is looking a bit bleak, but for players who can stand stutters like the one shown in the trailer then Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition may be worth a look.

Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition will be released for the Nintendo Switch on September 26. It’s now available to play on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
