So what is the game all about? Dandy Dungeon is a story-driven romantic comedy while also being a roguelike-RPG. The game offers retro visuals combined with contemporary ideas. The soundtrack is amazing, and it layers well with chiptunes alongside the main character’s humming. Dandy Dungeon comes with loot-filled procedurally-generated dungeons.

The story follows Yamada-kun, a 36 year-old programmer working at a major game publisher. He hates his job, and as a way of passing time, works deep into the night with his own game. This is an RPG where he is the hero known as Brave Yamada. One day he sees his new neighbor, Maria-chan, and experiences love at first sight. In order to nurture these hidden feelings, he adds the Princess Maria character to the game.

The game is being offered exclusively for the Switch which comes with refined and re-balanced play. Dandy Dungeon is simple. In order to clear the floor of a dungeon, all you need to do is use the controller or finger to draw a path to guide the hero from the entrance to the exit. Players can use attack spells to fight and cast defense spells and use healing items to keep the hero alive.

It’s not just about solo play though, as this version now comes with a world leaderboard to allow players to compete with each other and see who is the bravest Yamada of all.

Dandy Dungeon was first released in 1983. It was originally simply titled Dandy, which was a play on D&D or Dungeons and Dragons.
