CD Projekt Red's next big open-world RPG game Cyberpunk 2077 is less than 10 days away from release. And every day, we've been learning new things about the game. Today, we have new information on Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer.
Although fans know that Cyberpunk 2077 will have multiplayer, not everybody is aware of the specifics. The multiplayer mode is likely an independent product. Most other video games feature both single-player and multiplayer components within the same game. But CD Projekt Red chose to separate the campaign from the multiplayer experience. The multiplayer version will launch sometime after the game's single-player release.
A few months ago, fans learned that Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer mode would have microtransactions. The information wasn't received positively by fans. Many criticized the Polish developer for walking in the footsteps of other developers, who exploited that system. Seeing the outrage from fans, the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account clarified something. Yes, the multiplayer has microtransactions. But the developer said it's not going to ax players. Let's hope that's true. Either way, the product won't be out until 2022.
Now, CD Projekt Red's Joint CEO Adam Kicinski stated in a recent studio briefing that the developer isn't treating the multiplayer component of the game as "mode." It is a standalone part of the game.
This means the single-player and multi-player versions can run on their own. Though, their elements will connect to each other. It's somewhat the same with Red Dead Online. That online game doesn't interfere with Red Dead Redemption 2's main campaign.
Fans knew that the multiplayer of Cyberpunk 2077 began as a concept before entering into full development. Now, the game's multiplayer has its full-fledged team to handle the content.
After many delays, CD Projekt Red decided not to reveal any future content and plans about Cyberpunk 2077. At least, until fans have actually played the main game.
Cyberpunk 2077 is releasing on December 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Google Stadia.
