A standalone card game for the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 will be released in 2020, as announced by CD Projekt Red.

Entitled Cyberpunk 2077 – Afterlife: The Card Game, it is a standalone physical card game made by CD Projekt Red in cooperation with board game publisher CMON, the same company behind Bloodborne: The Board Game and Bloodborne: The Card Game.

Spearheaded by the award-winning game designer Eric M. Lang (Arcadia Quest, Star Wars: The Card Game, Chaos in the Old World), the card game will thrust its players into the dodgy alleyways of megapolis Night City, where ruthless gangs clash with corporations in an endless war for money, power, and control. Here’s more on how Afterlife works from CMON’s press release:

“In Cyberpunk 2077 – Afterlife: The Card Game, players become Fixers. Fixers are the databrokers and masterminds in Night City who recruit cyberpunks, equip them with gear, and send them out on missions. But nothing’s free in Night City. Players need to balance between what they want and what they can actually afford. Using an innovative drafting mechanic and special dashboard, players must decide which cards they want to buy, and which to sacrifice for funds in order to purchase new ones. Each successful mission raises the player’s Street Cred, with mission survivors becoming Veterans, imparting their knowledge and experience to newer recruits. In this chrome-infused world, Street Cred is the only currency that truly matters.”

Lang has said that he is a huge fan of Cyberpunk, and that he has played the original tabletop game since its first edition. “I grew up playing the RPG and have kept up with the franchise through the years. Andrea Chiarvesio and I were beyond thrilled to work on it,” he said in the press release. There's been no official news as of yet, but it has been teased that this will certainly not be the last collaboration between CMON and CD Projekt Red. I’m guessing we should expect a Cyberpunk 2077 board game soon, then?

Cyberpunk 2077 – Afterlife: The Card Game will be released in 2020. CD Projekt Red’s video game, Cyberpunk 2077, will be released on April 16, 2020.
