There's a new league in town. Flashpoint

Nine CS:GO teams are ready to go head-to-head in the upcoming Flashpoint Season 1. The tournament is set to begin on March 13 and lasts until April 19. The total prize pool for the competition is $1 million. However, before the matches start, two more teams are needed in order to complete the roster.

If you haven't heard of Flashpoint, don't worry as you're probably not alone. The thing to keep in mind about this one is that Flashpoint isn't just a tournament, but actually an entire league. There's also an added twist, if you can call it that. Flashpoint is the first esports league to be managed by team organizations. It was established in 2019 by the organizations Cloud9, MIBR, Dignitas, Gen.G, C0ntact Esports, Mad Lions, and Envy Gaming.

The goal of Flashpoint is to have a tournament that is sustainable for both players and organizations while being able to offer a new way to tell a story. Thus the tournament has eight teams as Founding Members, with two more coming from the LAN Qualifier and another two that have yet to be determined.

Format

The first part of the tournament is divided into Phases 1 and 2. There's going to be three double-elimination (GSL) format groups, with each group consisting of four teams. All matches are going to be best-of three. After the first phase, the teams then redraft the groups and go at it from GSL Groups. Points are awarded based on places finished which are:

  • 1st - 75 points
  • 2nd - 50 points
  • 3rd - 30 points
  • 4th - 15 points

After the two Phases, the top eight teams then move to the Double Elimination Playoffs. In this part of the tournament, seeding is based on team points and all matches are played best-of three.

So far the teams that are part of the tournament include:

  • Cloud9 (Founding Member)
  • c0ntact Gaming (Founding Member)

  • Team Envy (Founding Member)
  • Gen.G Esports (Founding Member)
  • MAD Lions (Founding Member)
