A new card game arrives to Steam. Clarity Games

Are you one of those looking for an alternative to Hearthstone? If the answer is yes, then you don’t have to wait that long. Indeed, a new competitive card game is ready to join the scene. Chroma: Bloom and Blight announced its arrival on Steam this Thursday, January 28.

So, what’s going to make this game stand out? If developer Clarity Games is to be believed, the game is free-to-play. You’re probably thinking that it’s one of those games promising such only to add a paid feature later. Clarity Games assured in a statement that all cards in the game are free. That’s more than 240 cards plus 22 heroes.

While most games in this genre make use of traditional card packs, Chroma: Bloom and Blight guarantee none of that. So how are they going to make money? Apparently, they’re going to give players the ability to buy different cosmetics in order to have a more customized playing experience. By paying, players can get new stuff like emotes or even alternative card art.

Welcome to Arholt

Before we move forward into what the game has to offer, let’s take a quick look into the lore. At the heart of the game is Arholt, a fantasy land filled with controlling factions and contrasting cultures. Despite that, it remains to be a world full of wonder.

The story, however, serves another purpose apart from learning the game's background. Players who prefer story-based elements can benefit from the lore-focused progression. Players can interact with different heroes and cards to learn more about Arholt.

Launch Features

Once the game is launched, players immediately get access to casual matchmaking whether it's PvE or PvP. For PvP, competitive matchmaking is going to be offered at launch. There’s also the Spectate Mode and the ability to have Private Matchmaking. Of course, the lore progression system mentioned earlier is available at launch.

The game is set to offer free and premium battle passes as well.
