Hardcore Call of Duty: WWII players will want to set aside some time this weekend for some multiplayer action. Via a tweet from Sledgehammer Games on Friday, a special double XP event will take place through the weekend. The event features both Multiplayer double XP and Weapons double XP, and whether you prefer to play Public Matches or the Nazi Zombies mode, you’ll get the bonuses either way.

Sledgehammer did not announce an official end time for the event. But since the event began on Friday at noon, it could potentially last until Monday around the same time. The latest bonus event is likely a bid to get players up to speed and sufficiently levelled ahead of the first official Call of Duty: WWII DLC, titled The Resistance. The Resistance is scheduled for release on Jan. 30, so this may be the last chance you get to accrue all that XP in a short time.

The Resistance delivers a series of new multiplayer maps, a new Nazi Zombies map, as well as a new War Mode mission called Operation Intercept. There’s a lot still to come for the game in terms of expanded content, which is good news for anyone who already powered through the singleplayer campaign and needs a little more than the map rotation currently available.

For those who haven’t yet played through Call of Duty: WWII, the shooter offers a sincere portrayal of the perils of war in the level of polish we’ve come to expect from Sledgehammer. It truly shines in multiplayer, however, so beginners might want to jump in and get their feet wet while it’s easier to gain XP this weekend.
