The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth's latest update went live early today, which is the second patch for the game within a week. There are definitely some things that need fixing after the mixed reception of the newly released Repentance expansion pack. So, Patch v4.0.2 focused greatly on balancing changes and improvements as well as several dozens of bug fixes. We have discussed the highlights of the patch below.

Soul Hearts from Blue Fires is back to its previous 25% drop rate in normal mode, goodbye to the sad 10% rate. A couple of missing Bestiary entries have been added while the lighting near the player in Curse of Darkness is increased. From now on, the on-hit effects will not be triggered via White fires, and you cannot find Dark Bum via “The Lost” anymore. Read on for the other changes and improvements:

  • Soul heart devil deals can now be taken even if the player cannot afford them.
  • Removed double-tap trigger from Dark Arts since it could often be accidentally triggered.
  • Dark Bum and Brimstone Bombs now cost one heart container in deals with the devil.
  • Genesis room will now contain a trapdoor back to the starting room on the final floors.
  • Helper summoned by Soul of the Forgotten now deals more damage and constantly swings its bone as long as the attack buttons are held down instead of charging a bone throw.
  • Bombs thrown by a certain end game boss now interact as expected with Safety Scissors.
  • Added a charge bar to Sumptorium to indicate when a blood clot will be spawned.
  • Sacrifice room spikes will no longer teleport the player to the Dark Room when on a challenge or daily run that does not end there.
