Battlefield 2042: Class System Returns in Update 3.2.0

Update 3.2.0 EA

Battlefield 2042 is going back to its roots as DICE Entertainment is set to implement the class system in Update 3.2.0, coming very soon.

What is It?

The class system is a Battlefield staple where players choose a class that specializes in one thing. However, this system is improved with a few notable changes to make it unique to Battlefield 2042.

First is the concept of Weapon Proficiencies. Each of the new classes has something different to offer, such as:

  • Assault + Assault Rifles: 3 Extra Magazines
  • Engineer + LMG: Improved Dispersion while Crouched or Prone
  • Support + SMG: Faster Draw Time
  • Recon + Sniper Rifles: Immediate, constant, and steady scope

This change is meant to encourage players to stick with a weapon archetype based on the role of the class they’ve selected. This is not to say that they cannot use other weapons anymore, but this is more about making sure that they’re getting the most bang for the buck.

That said, players can now use different weapons as they please regardless of class. Want to use a sniper rifle as an Assault? That's now possible! Weapon Proficiencies are just a recommendation so that new and old players are guided to the best possible gun their chosen class can wield.

DICE is also adding class icons for more transparency. Players will know exactly who the enemy’s support player is, for example.

And lastly, loadouts are now unified per class. For instance, changing loadouts for Crawford means that Boris is going to have the same exact weapons and gadgets because they’re both Engineers.
