Abalon is officially launching on May 11. The game offers turn-based tactics with card strategy and roguelike adventure focused on exploration, survival, and defeating powerful bosses.
In a statement, D20Studios Founder and Game Developer Ross Przybylski revealed that they're finally able to deliver on their vision of a game that mixes the best elements of classic tabletop games. He added that this comes after seven years of development.
Inspired by Tabletop Games
The game takes its inspiration from different classic tabletop games like Hero Quest, Dungeons and Dragons, and Magic: The Gathering. Players get to explore the game in real-time and let them uncover lore scrolls, shop for powerful cards and, if lucky, attend a goblin's birthday party.
In terms of combat, Abalon follows a turn-based format where unit positioning is as important as spell casting. The fights are set in arena-style maps where the environment is a key part of the battlefield and isn't merely there for show.
The Perfect Deck
Players can also collect cards. Each Summoner is linked to two classes including Arcane, Celestial, Nature, Void, and Chaos; different classes offer various playstyles. Chaos, for example, offers a lot of fire AoE spells to deal big damage. Meanwhile, Arcane gives players the ability to mind-control enemies.
Each deck in Abalon has a maximum of 20 cards. This way, players can collect all the cards they like knowing that they won't hinder the current build. For those who want to change their playstyle halfway through their adventure, all players need to do is roast marshmallows on the campfire and chat with the Cosmic Tortoise.
