So, you have put in a decent number of hours into Dota 2, and you are undoubtedly enjoying the game a lot. While there have been wins and Rampages, you have also experienced heartbreaks and losses. You know that you have what it takes to win games, but it seems you need to improve to actually rank higher.

If you have been looking for ways to improve your Dota 2 skills, then you have come to the right place. Here are some quick tips to get the most out of each game. Good luck, have fun!

Learn To Cancel Your Animations

This is one of the most important strategies in Dota 2, something that you really need to learn. Each regular attack comes with an animation cycle that has a specific duration. For melee heroes, their attack point starts when they get within the range of the target. From there, they just swing their weapon. The attack point continues until the head of the weapon makes contact with the target. A ranged hero’s attack point, on the other hand, ends as soon as the projectile becomes visible and travels towards the target.

Your goal here is to learn to cancel your hero’s backswing by inputting a move command in between. By doing so, you are able to cast spells and/or move to a certain location on the map more efficiently. More importantly, you will have more time to chase down your enemy for a kill.

Up Your Creep Kill Numbers

The number of creeps you kill in Dota 2 is going to make a huge difference in the early part of the game. Obviously, if you want your team to dominate right away, you want to ensure that your net worth is way above your opponents’. By improving your last hits, you are able to earn more gold and stack on items a lot earlier than usual. Start by learning to last hit and denying creeps, which is a basic thing to do.

Also, keep in mind that creep killing is not only done in lanes – you can also venture out and move to the jungle, especially if your lane proves to be a difficult one. For instance, you play Anti-Mage and you seem to have a hard time killing and/or denying creeps. You can always go to the jungle, or even ask your support to pull creeps or stack neutral ones.

Draw Creep Aggro

Creeps in Dota 2 are programmed in a way that they switch to aggro once an attack command is issued. Notice that when you try to attack an enemy hero, the creeps start to attack you as well. Interestingly, you can use this to your advantage and get more last hits or denies. That is because you are slightly pulling the creep wave towards your side of the map. Even more so, this gives you the opportunity to have more breathing room. Your opponent will find it difficult to bully you, let alone dive for a gank.

If you follow these three tips, your Dota 2 ranking should definitely increase. Did you find this advice helpful? What other tips do you have for Dota 2 players? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
