Another Japanese visual novel is set release in the West, and this time it’s coming from one of the more renowned Japanese VN publishers.

It was only last year when Spike Chunsoft announced that it would bring one of its most popular visual novels, YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World to Western audiences in 2019. After a year of waiting, we finally have an idea of when can we expect it to drop, and on which platforms.

The original announcement listed PlayStation 4 and the PC as the platforms for release, all set to launch in 2019. Now, it has been confirmed by Spike Chunsoft that YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World will release on three platforms: the PlayStation 4, PC, and the Nintendo Switch on October 1, 2019.

There will be physical and digital launches, which means that you can look for retailers to carry YU-NO after its release date. The game will be priced at $49.99 across all platforms, and will be made available on Steam for PCs. YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World will feature Japanese audio with English subtitles.

There will also be Day 1 Editions available for people who pre-order it, exclusive only to the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch platforms.

  • Nintendo Switch Day 1 Edition – this version includes a voucher code for 8-Bit YU-NO’s Great Adventure, an action title utilizing the 8-bit style and featuring various characters from YU-NO.
  • PlayStation 4 Day 1 Edition – this edition includes a mini cloth poster featuring character Eriko Takeda, the mysterious school nurse of Sakaimachi Academy.

Spike Chunsoft has also stated in a post that the English versions of YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World for the Switch and PlayStation 4 will have what they called ‘content changes’; in reality it just looks like some censorship for the racier parts of the game. These changes include:

  • Sala Oasis Scene – during this scene, Sala will have a sunbeam placed over her naked lower body. Classy.
  • Symbols – some of the cursor interaction symbols have been replaced by a simple ‘investigation’ symbol instead. The story and content remain largely unchanged, though, and only the symbol was affected.

These changes will only be made on the English Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 releases of the game. PC players on Steam will have content identical to the Japanese Nintendo Switch release.

YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of this World is set for release on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC on October 1, 2019.
