Nintendo has confirmed that it is hiking the prices of its physical game cartridges coming to the Switch 2 platform.

Before this, all games released by Nintendo cost the same, with no differences in price for the digital download version and the physical games.

Nintendo's Price Hike for Switch 2 Game Cartridges Arrives

Nintendo announced that it is raising the prices on the Nintendo Switch 2's physical game cartridges. The announcement reveals that its physical game cartridges will follow a different MSRP compared to the digital version that will be made available to the console's eShop.

The Japanese gaming company's announcement only applies to first-party games that it will release on the Nintendo Switch 2, and this does not apply to how third-party developers will price their games when released on the platform.

Nintendo said that it is only raising the MSRP of its physical game cartridges, and this could vary among retailers as they set the price of the games they sell on their platforms or stores. Additionally, Nintendo said that pricing on each title may also vary.

First-Party Physical Games Are Affected

The Kyoto-based company revealed that the new physical game cartridge price hike will first apply to the upcoming "Yoshi and the Mysterious Book" game coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo will now charge gamers an extra $10 on physical version purchases in the United States, with "Yoshi and the Mysterious Book's" preorder already reflecting the updated pricing. Instead of the usual $59.99 price from before, the new game is now listed at $69.99 for the physical version if a gamer buys it directly from Nintendo.

The company said that the price increase will officially take effect in May, which is the release date of the "Yoshi" game.

As for digital game copies for the Switch and Switch 2, Nintendo is still selling them at its $59.99 SRP.
