A new update for World of Tanks is in the works and everyone is invited to try it out before its release. In Update 1.16.1, players get to experience battles differently with the new aiming interface features. There are also improvements done for the trade-in feature.

Before we look into those changes, let's start first with the news that Frontline is back. There are several launches planned for Frontline this year with the first one coming in May. For those new to the game, Frontline is a mode where players get to fight in a 30v30 format. While the core gameplay remains the same, some balancing adjustments have been made to make it even more enjoyable.

When Frontline returns, it's bringing back single-tier battles, and this means only Tier VIII vehicles are allowed. In addition, some of the positions for attackers on all three defense lines of the Kraftwerk map have been rebalanced. You can view the significant changes here.

Vehicle Outlining

For the upcoming update, the development team is introducing the rendering of different obstacles inside the vehicle outline and the outline of the vehicle collision model itself.

This improvement is going to be useful when aiming at enemy vehicles that are obstructed by bushes, fences, or other obstacles. For example, when you see a vehicle in the crosshair, the obstacles inside its collision model are highlighted with two of these types of special rendering, depending on whether the shell can penetrate them or not. Here are some of the details:

  • Texture
    • This is for penetrable obstacles with loss of armor penetration.
    • This type of rendering applies to fences and other small obstacles and only works for AP, APCR, and HE shells since they penetrate some obstacles but lose armor penetration.
    • HEAT shells don't penetrate such objects.
  • Fill
    • This is for impenetrable obstacles.
    • This second type of rendering is to be used for houses, stones, terrain elements, and destroyed vehicles.

Now suppose a vehicle is obstructed by two obstacles at once, with one being penetrable and the other impenetrable. The priority is given to the impenetrable obstacles.

In the image below, you can see that the right side is impenetrable while that one with small red dots tells you it's penetrable.

Trade-In Feature

As mentioned, the trade-in feature is getting an update that allows players to exchange Premium vehicles from their collection. With this, players should be able to expand the number of possible offers on the trade-in list and make them even more attractive.

The interface has been improved as well to make it clearer and more user-friendly. The entire exchange process should be simpler and more understandable.
