While the world awaits "The Witcher 4," CD Projekt Red's latest announcement reveals that the company has massive things in store for the franchise's future, with three games coming in the next six years.
'The Witcher' Franchise Gears Up for 3 Games in 6 Years
The latest earnings call from the Polish game development giant reveals massive information on the future of "The Witcher" franchise, with the vice president of business, Michał Nowakowski, confirming its plans.
According to the executive, the team behind "The Witcher" still plans to develop games at a faster rate, focusing on three games to be released in six years.
Nowakowski reveals that this pertains to the next storyline of "The Witcher," with "The Witcher 4" following a new protagonist as the titular character as Ciri takes on the Witcher mantle.
This specific restart of the franchise would mark the first game of its planned trilogy, and the other two games to follow it are set to arrive within six years.
While Nowakowski did not talk much about "The Witcher 4's" launch or availability, he addressed that the team plans to focus on a shorter development time for the next games, including "The Witcher 5" and "The Witcher 6."
CD Projekt Red's 'The Witcher' Is Still Alive
Despite the ten-year absence of "The Witcher's" mainline game in the market since its last release in 2015, CD Projekt Red continues to assure the public that the franchise is still alive and will continue with new experiences in the future.
According to Nowakowski, the team's switch from CDPR's REDEngine to Unreal Engine three years ago was a massive help to their development.
The executive discussed how the Unreal Engine is helping them learn along the way, particularly as they plan for "The Witcher 4," and possibly its sequel games, to be an open-world title.
The team is also banking on the Unreal Engine by Epic Games to help them fast-track their development on the future of "The Witcher" franchise and achieve their promised timeline.
Moreover, Nowakowski said that the six-year timeline for "The Witcher's" trilogy to complete would start once "The Witcher 4" debuts.
