Publisher Fulqrum Publishing and developer Slipgate Ironworks and 2B Games officially announced Warpaws, a new, lighthearted, and colorful real-time strategy game pitting dogs and cats against each other using WWII-inspired weapons and arsenal. Warpaws is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam sometime in the first quarter of 2023. To celebrate the official announcement of this new RTS, Fulqrum Publishing released an official announcement trailer, which you can check out below.

The trailer features a drill sergeant Dobermann instructing and inspiring his cadets Full Metal Jacket-style, but with humor and lightheartedness sprinkled in. In fact, the game’s art design, music, and gameplay aspects point to Warpaws as a fun-first RTS title. It’s definitely a bold choice for the genre, but it does give the game personality and originality over others in the now relatively less popular genre.

Warpaws seeks to answer the age-old question of who is better: cats or dogs? This time, the argument turns into an actual battlefield, as players control units and regiments of either cats or dogs to utterly destroy the enemy species colorfully and spectacularly. Armed with weapons inspired by World War II armaments in an alternate world, Warpaws features cartoon-inspired art and slapstick humor alongside an all-out war between humanity’s most domesticated animals.

Warpaws features five different battle-torn biomes, each with its own terrain and quirks to discover. Players can use a mixture of stealthy spies, bazooka-wielding footmen, gunners, engineers, and pyros for numerous engagements across land, sea, and air. Instead of direct upgrade paths, Warpaws features different units with varying strengths and weaknesses, with players needing to utilize strategy and skill to claim victory. According to the official store page, Warpaws also eschews resources and base-building, instead focusing on management of a wide variety of units. Maps also feature destructible environments, which can be used to the player’s advantage in numerous ways. The game will also feature multiplayer modes, including co-op, PvP skirmishes, and King of the Hill.
