Morgan is no Eastman; he can kill if he needs to. The Walking Dead Season 7 will dive deeper into Morgan’s journey from angry man who wants to “clear” everything to someone who values all life.

Lennie James, who plays Morgan on the show, recently spoke to ComicBook.com about his character’s views on the world. Many people were surprised when Morgan emptied the round when he shot the Savior to death in The Walking Dead Season 6 finale. Morgan is still trying to figure out his path in life, and it might not be as simple as people think.

"I think it's one of the things that people have slightly misunderstood about the journey Morgan is going on," James told ComicBook.com. "He's trying to live a life where all life is precious. He's trying. He's not there yet. He's not Eastman. He doesn't have the benefit of being locked away in a hut with a goat. He's out in the world. He's trying to get it done."

Morgan might be able to find peace in The Kingdom. The character followed Rick’s breadcrumbs to find him in Alexandria, but that doesn’t mean he’ll stay. The fact is Rick and Morgan have opposing views on life. Rick’s views got Abraham and Glenn killed. King Ezekiel shares Morgan’s views and was able to keep the Saviors out of his Kingdom.

However, it’s possible Morgan’s time at the Kingdom will also remind him why some people shouldn’t be allowed to live in this world. Morgan and Ezekiel might value life, but people like Negan and Rick do not. Before Rick’s encounter with Negan, he was ready to kill anyone he perceived to be a threat. Sometimes you need that killer instinct to survive. Morgan still has a lot to learn.

For now, we’re glad Morgan and Carol found The Kingdom. They both needed to leave Rick’s group; life in Alexandria got to be too much for them. Hopefully when they do return to the community, they’ll be in better shape and ready to get Daryl back.

The Walking Dead Season 7 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.
