Jesus is potentially the Olivia Pope of The Walking Dead Season 7 . Okay, the reference might not be the best, but hear us out.

[Warning: You know the drill. The Walking Dead comic book spoilers ahead. They are not mild spoilers. We might ruin something for you. We’ve read the comics, we know what happens. Let us inform the rest of the internet. But seriously, you should read the comics.]

For non- Scandal fans out there, Olivia Pope is a fixer who goes around cleaning up messes of politicians. In short, she works behind the scenes to do damage control and get people back on her desired agenda. In the comics, this is very much what Jesus does for Rick with other communities. Jesus is extremely skeptical of Rick at first and it takes him a bit to trust him because, let’s face it, Rick’s a mad man .

Once Jesus deems Rick worthy of his services, he informs Rick about how he’s been in contact with another community to convince them to help take care of Negan. Like anyone with a political agenda, Jesus has had many secret meetings with Ezekiel, the leader of The Kingdom . Now this is where Jesus puts on the white hat and plays puppet master to start the All Out War.

With Rick’s help, Jesus is able to convince Ezekiel that war might be their only option. Wait, it gets interesting. There is one meeting between Jesus, Rick and Ezekiel in The Walking Dead comics we hope the show brings to life. We won’t give too much away, but Ezekiel comes in to the meeting like “I’ve done my own research because I don’t trust you fools” and introduces his ace into the game. Out of the curtains comes a double agent for the… wait for it… SAVIORS.

Jesus and Rick might as well have been clutching their pearls and fainting on the ground. We won’t give away the identity of the Savior spy, but it’s good. Even Jesus knows he was outplayed, but he knows he needs all the help he can get. Jesus needs Rick’s group because they have the weapons and fighting skills to teach the other communities how to defend themselves.

In fact, the more we think about it, Jesus might’ve been the one to set the All Out War in motion. He’s the one who approached Rick’s group to take care of Negan. He’s the one who sells Rick to Ezekiel. Jesus is one smooth bastard. Let’s hope The Walking Dead show lets him shine.

The Walking Dead Season 7 premieres Oct. 23 on AMC.
