Eugene staying with the Saviors seems to make sense for the character, but we’re not sure what he’s up to. Eugene knows a lot about the inner workings of Alexandria; if he was truly loyal to Negan, he would’ve warned him about Rick wanting to go to war.

So what is Eugene planning to do in the Sanctuary? He’s helping Negan create Walker Warriors by giving them metal armor.

Eugene is knowledgeable of explosives, knows how to craft bullets, and much more. Eugene also knows Rick wants to kill Negan. Why wouldn’t Eugene tell Negan? If he is truly loyal to Negan, this would probably be the first thing Eugene would tell him. But then again Negan doesn’t like cowards, so outing Rick’s plans might not fare well for Eugene.

We don’t think Eugene would risk trying to relay information to Rick, since he’d be the first Negan would suspect of betrayal. Eugene also wouldn’t try to kill Negan because he’s a pacifist.

However, Eugene IS planning on something. Josh McDermitt, who plays Eugene on the show, confirmed it during an interview with ComicBook.com.

"I think if Eugene is gonna do anything, he wants to do it on his terms," McDermitt said. "I also think he's comfortable living there. He's scared all the time and a big source of that fear is coming from Negan so if he were to leave he would be just as scared because Negan's gonna come after him. I don't think he wants to leave. I don't think he wants Negan to hurt anyone. I don't think he wants his friends to get hurt but if he can live in the Sanctuary and just live in peace, he's gonna take that over anything."

But what are you doing, Eugene? We’re truly stumped as to why the writers would put the character in this situation. In the comics, Eugene becomes such a strong character and a really vital part to the All Out War. Eugene runs the bullet factory and really helps Rick strategize. Throwing him at Negan seems like a waste.

What do you think the show is planning for Eugene? Let us know in the comments below. The Walking Dead Season 7 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.
