There’s something more sinister waiting underneath Negan’s smile in The Walking Dead Season 7.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan discussed Negan’s psyche during an interview with Entertainment Weekly . Comic book fans have a love-hate relationship with Negan, and there are clear parallels between the source material and the character’s depiction on the show. He has a very distinct charm and sense of morality unique to any character in the series. However, Morgan assured EW he’s made the character his own, and wants to take fans on an emotional rollercoaster .

“As far as similarities with the comic book, yeah, he might be a little bit more manic, but understand that I’ve got to connect those panels together and how Negan does that, there’s not a script for,” Morgan told EW . “So the writers will give me the material and then it’s about okay, well, how can I make that work? I’ve got to make this guy real, you know what I mean?”

Morgan added, “So what we’ve created is very disarming. I think there is this f—ing charm and devil may care, but you’re going to do it my way. But he does it with a smile. But when that violence comes, there is no doubting what this guy is going to do and how he’s going to do it, and I think we’ve established that very early on, that at any given moment you can die in front of Negan. What I hope is that it does make it scarier.”

It’s safe to say the show established how scary Negan is in the second half of T he Walking Dead Season 6. There was one scene during the episode when Rick’s group raided one of Negan’s camps that particularly stood out. Glenn had killed his first “human” while he was asleep. Before leaving the room, Glenn looked at a wall of polaroid pictures. The photographs were of Negan’s Lucille victims, and showed what the character is capable of in gruesome detail.

We’re only a month away from The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere, when fans will finally get to see who Negan killed in front of Rick’s group. Is it Glenn? Or Abraham? Could Negan have killed Michonne or Maggie? Let us know who you think died in the comments section below.
